Now it looks like data is not being received. I had another hurdle to take, as the homeassistant account did by default not have permissions on /dev/hidraw0. Changed a few things, I expect that emptying _init_.py was what did the trick (the _init_.py in the Git repro is not empty) I doubt if the alarm_control_panel.py script is even called.
